GEOPHYSICS!

Our planet has ever witnessed numerous seismic events which have made us feel that our planet is always dynamic, including some strange events that we could always cherish , such as quoting some cases when an earthquake occurs at sea are developed tsunamis that flooded terrestrial areas near the coast or foreign predecessor to a major event, or in some cases lights, climate change in a region where earthquakes occur . But have you ever heard that due to a seismic event of great magnitude emerged an "island" or " island "?

As we have seen in this opportunity, we add to the list of strange events that come after the occurrence of an earthquake islets in certain areas of our planet after the development of an earthquake. But why ?

Before you start to give a possible explanation of the event, remember that the last earthquake on 24 September 2013 in Pakistan whose magnitude was 7.7 becomes a very clear example of this strange occurrence, as after the earthquake it surfaced that an island population had never seen . This island appeared just a mile off the coast of Gwadar in the country.

Island formed after the Pakistan earthquake

Earlier this "island" had an oval shape about 90 meters long and rises about 20 meters above sea level. (1), as could be reported by a local journalist. According to some studies they had done on the island , has an irregular surface formed mostly having mud in some parts sand and rock solid .

Why this island was created by the earthquake, since the creation of islands have other geological processes?

One explanation is that scientifically based in the territory where the earthquake occurred is an area of intense seismic activity so there are several hills hills called mud craters at the top where methane gas seeps. ( 1)

It is thus that geologists are analyzing various existing geological faults created by continental drift or movement of land mass across oceans causing shock the Indian subcontinent with Eurasia in the area. Subsequently, the energy released by earthquakes on these faults activated flammable gases found on the seabed, and that there may be large deposits of gas hydrates or ice gas with high methane content, which are compressed under a bed sediments between 300 and 800 meters thick.

And that is when the plates move along these faults, create heat and the expanding gas bursts through cracks in the earth's crust making an entire area of seabed to break the surface, seemingly creating an "island ".

This is how you can give a scientific explanation to this strange geological event. Therefore, it is not correct to say that earthquakes can create islands directly off the coast of the coast in a specific region, suggesting that media. Then we can really say that it is not possible that seismic events of great intensity to create islands due to this seismic event, but was also commenting in this area which is highly seismic events of this nature have always happened but eventually desaprecian these geological formations caused by erosion by the sea.

But now it is not happening this geological process of erosion , but rather, this island or island is growing and expanding more and more .

Expansion Mishinoshima Island.
Let's look at the following image the new island that previously had formed the earthquake is the left side, which was much smaller than before what is now earlier.

The new island was separated by Sea Island Mishinoshima of which is to the right of the image. But now , the new island has grown to be an area of approximately 15 hectares , which makes this island could rise by up to 8 times its original size leaving the island practically united Mishinoshima and having a height of about 50 metrso above the sea. ( 2)

But what does this mean?

If we can give you an opinion is: This process is expanding , which means that this island is not really an island but as we all know , a mud volcano , named by scientists, but this mass land that is submerged is increasingly rising pressure caused by methane gas , which is buried beneath the sea surface, but the pressure is so great that the earth is expanding, it is worth noting that there are volcanic eruptions in that area, so that energy and pressure is released.

Your geophysicist or geologist what can you say about it ? Can certain earthquakes be able to create pop islands ? Or are we just overreacting? All of a research topic .
