Xinjiang is an administrative subdivision of the PRC . The region shares borders with Russia , Mongolia , Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan , Tajikistan , Pakistan and Afghanistan. Also borders the provinces of Gansu , Qinghai and Tibet Autonomous Region .
It has an area of 1,600,000 square kilometers. It is divided into two basins by Tian Shan mountains : the dzungariana north of the Tarim Basin and south . This mountain range also defines its border with Kyrgyzstan and it is Torugart Pass ( 3752 m).
The lowest point of the province , which is also in the PRC, is located 155 meters below sea level. The higher the Karakoram , with a height of 8611 meters and situated on the border with Kashmir . Currently a large seismic event affected the Isolated Region of Xinjiang , China. The magnitude was initially evaluated in 7 Mw by the magnitude 7.3 Mw Institute and by the Chinese authorities .
