Something that caught my attention on the Internet and I think also for our friends Geophysicists and Geologists, because when I was looking information about National Institutes of Seismology found a website with a special title "Catch Seismic Network" or what would abbreviating RAS . I started reading and I took a lot of surprises and expectations.
The first thing I discovered was that the intent of this page is to create a Worldwide Seismological Network, its hub in the country of Mexico and what impressed me most is that you can provide an accelerometer which can connect to your desktop computer through a USB port, the intention of this is that if there is or there is a large-scale seismic event as aftershocks occur for the Internet can send information to that in central Mexico is process the information that your computer is able to obtain the seismic event.
This accelerometer you can provide it for free (which is a limited) or a low cost so you can join the project.
In addition to that you can be part of the project called 'Detection of Replicas "you just have to meet certain minimum requirements: a computer with Internet access, have felt an earthquake and its aftershocks, have USB port, Windows or Mac operating system and own a computer with an age of 5 years or less.
In this project you can choose the type of Volunteering: Volunteer to be a General which will install the accelerometer or be a Regional General Coordinator who helps General Volunteers (as a group leader).
They also allow you to create a free account to access your website http://www.ras.unam.mx/ Officer and agree that you have participated or worked Certificates provide the Network Virtual Catch generated by Earthquakes.
In this simple way to explain is how this network operations center or Catch Earthquakes.
We update this post telling all our users that unfortunately we can purchase a USB accelerometer free as they can only be purchased in certain parts of Mexico high risk as the Pacific coast state of Colima, Jalisco, Michoacan, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas. But as we mentioned above we can acquire at a low cost of about 708 pesos each which would come to be about a 55-60 U.S. dollars a pretty cheap price if we have a seismic sensor at home do not you think ?
